Inspiration
Imagine that the best way for you to heal from a heartbreak or recover from a stressful phase at work it turning to art and create new paintings? This is definitely my therapy, my medicine. But one thing I am very aware of is that time won’t come back. Time to paint more won’t come back. So I saw this quote today and it spoke my mind. With all those things that are high quality, spending time with our moms, best friends, go crazy and create that entire album of songs or series of paintings, … just do it. Don’t wait.
This week, I found this quote in one of Brianna Wiest’s essays, which stuck with me. Anxiety, she says, is also a sign of not being connected enough to the present moments. I am trying to slowly reduce my social media consumption to an absolute minimum because I want to focus more on sharing stories, art, and thoughts here on my website. Social media can be a nice source of inspiration when you use it wisely. Still, I want to put more effort into my website than keeping up with the IG algorithm. I also feel inspired by red jumper as can see in my latest series called “Something is Burning”
The green life is both a hymn and a heartbeat, echoing the deep, timeless bond between soil and soul. Palm or banana trees, exotic unknown plants, I feel very at home. Just started a new series of abstract paintings inspired by nature.
When in Lisbon, there is no escape from all the beautiful tiles. The entire city is very artsy and inspiring. Here are a few azulejos.
There is so much “we have to” and “need to” follow this or that. We love to plan and perfect. Well, I am inviting PLAY now very consciously into my life. A great way to bring play and playfulness back is tapping into your 3-year-old version, connecting with kids and playing games again.
My latest inspiration comes from nature and the fresh green it especially offers now during springtime. Plants have something soothing, I find. But also something so magical. Of course, spending time outside and in nature, surrounded by that green beauty, energy is up. I have a few ideas for new paintings. Let’s see where it will take me.
We are boarding planes again and going on adventures. In the past few years, I have mainly stayed on islands and avoided longer stays in huge cities. One exception has been hot Miami, which inspired me with its design quarter and Wynwood which looks and feels pretty much like London’s Shoreditch.
Books are magic and great teachers. I could not imagine a world without fantasy, how-to guides, and other stories and experiences shared with us. If there’s one thing that inspires me for sure, then it’s a good book. From space psychology, creativity, and design thinking to a Greek holiday novel telling the dramas of poets and painters.
Do we need more goals or do we need more inspiration right now? I think we need INSPIRATION! When was the last time you had an inspiring conversation with a glass of wine? A lot feels much heavier these days, don’t you think? So the last thing we need is more pressure to compete and perform. Instead of listing way too many goals to your list for the coming year, what about finding new ways to get inspired again? Where do you like to travel next? What makes you feel alive?
I’m in love with not only black and white photography but also with black and white paintings. A new series of digital contemporary paintings will drop soon. It’s my way to express timelessness and modernness.
Even in lockdown, I can find inspiration for my abstract art. All I need is to go to my bathroom. These three creations of sunlight, reflection, and rainbows especially grabbed my attention.
I became absolutely a fan of painter Liza Giles and her works. “Communicating simply through the use of colour, shape and texture…”. She says that her “work is driven by an impetus to ‘switch off’ and reengage with our instinct…”. That resonates a lot with me these days.
Simplicité - Sometimes less is more, and that’s why I have lately fallen in love with minimalist art. Simple shapes and clear lines. No chaos but calmness. It could be understood as a reaction to this year in which we all seem to be overwhelmed by the complexity and disorder of the world.
