THE FOCUSED MINIMALIST
I’ve been listening and dancing to minimal house for many years but I have never made an effort to live more minimalistic. The pandemic and lockdown life are slowly changing how I live. Imagine that life surprises you and within a few days, you need to move countries or cities, maybe even continents. How much stuff will you need to go through and organise? Will you keep everything or give things away? Do you really use all of the stuff that you keep at your house or flat?
THE STUFF
Less is ZEN. Less is inner peace. That’s my view. I will never forget the moment and feeling when I packed my suitcase (medium size) to leave the home and city I had lived in for the past four years. I moved from Germany to Spain, and all I really needed was in there. I felt light and kind of worry-free. Back then, I was 26 years old and didn’t even own a notebook. I had a few clothes and shoes, some jewellery, and a Nokia phone.
THE RELATIONSHIPS
Since the first lockdown, the number of friends and acquaintances I am in regular touch with has definitely decreased. It’s a small group of people I talk to but the frequency is more often. I really don’t need 20 best friends. I need at least two who are simply there for me.
THE WORK
Focussing on a few important projects works its magic. We are way too often slaves of our to-do lists and want to achieve too many things at the same time. I rather deal with FOMO (fear of missing out) than not allowing myself to be actually in the moment with my work. I’ve decided to go more minimal in my drawing and painting style and created a series that’s called Petra. Petra is one of those close friends and has a great taste for modern design and contemporary art. She loves the contrast of black and white. With these six Petra paintings, I am finishing my first art project in 2021. It naturally led me to my next adventure which I can’t wait to share with you very soon.
