A BLOGGING COMEBACK?

Our relationship with social media is something I think about every single day. I remember the early Instagram days in 2013 when almost none of my friends used it. I discovered a few inspiring bloggers and illustrators back then, and most of them had great websites and started to use IG for instant updates. I loved it, and it became one of my most important creative inspiration sources.

In the past 11 years, the use and face of Instagram has immensely changed. I am increasingly missing in-depth and personal updates in that sea of sameness, such as insights on creative processes, sketches of new projects, studio days, and long-format/blog entries by artists sharing more personal and unique thoughts and stories. Instagram seems to have substituted a lot of that with short videos, animated with music and subtitles. They look all the same to me.

Most of us lack the patience to read long captures, not to mention longer blog entries or newsletters. One of my best friends just said it. She does not read blogs and prefers to watch videos. I guess it is not only her. I am however one of those people who loves a good blog, especially from other creatives and artists. Most websites seem to be reduced to a portfolio, shop, resume, and contact page. There are rarely journals or blogs anymore.

Is it an open diary? Yes, it kind of is. Sharing my thoughts, my views, my learnings, my inspirations, and my creative experiments is always a reflection of the time I live in. It reflects what I am feeling, going through, trying to improve or understand. This might not be interesting for everyone, but reading through my entries once in a while and going back in time is a great thing I don’t want to miss.

A blog is like a Thought Catalogue—an invitation to follow a personal Journal Journey.
